Samsung Electronics will reveal its latest S-Skin and Lumini skin care solutions to the global marketplace in a bid to encourage creative technologies in the beauty place.

The electronics leader will focus on using technology to revolutionise skin care at this year’s CES 2017 between 5th-8th January at Eureka Park Marketplace, Las Vegas, US.

The South Korean technology conglomerate will reveal leading Creative Lab (C-Lab) projects at the event, which is designed for small businesses to showcase emerging technologies to the global marketplace.

Beyond the surface

At this year’s CES, Samsung will unveil two skin care products: S-Skin, a home skincare and analysis solution and Lumini, a portable device that identifies and prevents skin problems by looking at the inner skin.

In a bid to reduce resources associated with professional dermatological care, S-Skin is packaged as a consumer skincare solution. It contains a microneedle patch that penetrates and analyses the skin before deploying ingredients to improve its condition.

S-Skin’s portable device measures the hydration, redness, and melanin of the skin and then uses LED light to offer bespoke skin care. It also appeals to digitally-savvy audiences by using an app that monitors the skin’s condition.

Selfie success

Another creation on display at this year’s CES will be the Lumini, a portable device that highlights people’s individual skin problems before they occur. Harnessing the popularity of the selfie culture, users can take a photo of their face with Lumini, which uses its own algorithm to evaluate and send the information to a smartphone app.

The portable device provides convenience by enabling the user to analyse skin care matters under the surface of the skin, including increased pores, wrinkles, redness, pimples, freckles, and sebum, on the go.

With anti-ageing and skin whitening two key concerns for APAC consumers, these products directly appeal to this strong market as they can indicate the nature of the skin and how it is likely to change.

Lumini can also provide recommendations and advice on suitable cosmetic products to buy. Consumers seeking sophisticated skin care solutions can also receive a remote consulting service with skincare specialists or a dermatologist.

Big ideas

“Ideas from diverse areas from fashion and kids to beauty are being developed based on innovative technology and we will continue to seek for additional ideas across a broad spectrum,” highlighted Jaiil Lee, Vice President of Creativity & Innovation Center at Samsung Electronics.

C-Lab was launched in December 2012 as a startup business programme to support novel concepts and develop innovative creations from Samsung employees.

Samsung began displaying its C-Lab technologically-inspired creations in 2016 at numerous conferences and exhibitions. The project analyses the business potential of each individual idea by the audience’s response.
