Ultra Contouring: The personalised hair care trend dominating 2017 Wella TrendVision

The 2017 Wella TrendVision event celebrated China’s top hairstyle inspirations and creations by focusing on personalised optical illusions.

Top hair stylists gather

The event, dubbed the Hair Oscars, which took place on 22nd August in Guangzhou, China, welcomed hairstylists from all over the country.

Now in its 20th edition, the Wella TrendVision Award has generated scores of fans and industry support, with its annual Chinese hair fashion industry summit gathering China's top hairstylists under one roof.

Over 1,000 of China’s top hairstylists were invited to this year’s event, where they watched 24 finalists go head to head for the winning title.

Colourful contouring

This year’s 2017 Wella TrendVision Award centred on the inventive and personalised international Spring/Summer trend of Wella Professionals - Ultra Contouring.

Adventurous, creative and pushing the boundaries of hair design, Ultra Contouring uses light and shadow to produce a personalised style to suit the individual’s face shape.

The trend explores hair colour and styles, as well as using contouring technology to create a “super-personalised optical illusion”.

Ultra Contouring delves into elements of high fashion, beauty and cutting-edge hair styling to blend the eclectic mix of colour, contouring, style and personalisation — a dominating trend in the beauty, hair and colour cosmetics industries.

The 2017 TrendVision event invited “hairstyle trendmaster and fearless hairstyle founder”, Robert Lobetta from Sebastian Professionals to present his hairdressing creations, which are heavily inspired by art and fashion.

The best of both

Looking ahead, the Chinese showcase revealed its Autumn/Winter International Trend: The new norm collection. With a variety of hand-crafted hair techniques that incorporate both past cut and colour designs, the new norm fuses classic styles with inventive forward-focusing ideas.

Illumina Colour is an example of how Wella Professionals  — which is owned by Coty Professional Beauty  — aims to mix the old with the new.

The hair colour collection experiments with light and dark, soft and dense colour, to promote haircuts, textures and qualities.
