Organisers of the annual Personal Care and Homecare Ingredients (PCHi) trade show, Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions (RSE), are getting ready for their first upcoming PCHi Technology Summit.

Technological focus

In partnership with the Cosmetics Science & Technology Innovation Committee (CSTIC), the inaugural conference and event will take place at OneHome Art Hotel in Shanghai, China between 29th-30th August 2017.

Focusing on cutting-edge developments, the agenda will concentrate on the entire supply chain and Chinese-related rules and regulations, along with key market trends, packaging innovations and understanding efficacy methods.

Through “creating another platform, designed for academic exchange and networking”, PCHi plans to provide an “exploration of key industry trends and issues”, said Joe Zhou, Vice-President at RSE.

The new two-day event aims to examine market trends, manufacturing technology and product formulations to explore how the evolving technological sphere is advancing the cosmetics industry.

Sun care success

To launch the summit, the 2017 edition of the conference will deliver the main theme of industry trends, while delving into sun protection and whitening as two key areas for the Chinese and wider Asia-Pacific (APAC) market.

Today, consumers are seeking high SPF sun protection as consumers' concerns about sun damage continue. Understanding efficacy, formulations and technical claims that are increasingly displayed on sun care packaging are crucial to build confidence and market share in the industry.

In APAC, consumers focus on sun protection and skin whitening to preserve the skin against detrimental environmental factors.

However, brands are taking a conservative approach to product claims and marketing campaigns, as dermocosmetics and the physiological impact of skin whitening should be avoided to prevent publishing incorrect messages.

Understanding industry trends

“Through this summit, our goal is to enable attendees to gain a better understanding of the market situation, industry trends, and technical insights, as well as to promote industry cooperation,” added Zhou.

Almost 300 professionals including personal care ingredient manufacturers and suppliers, OEMs and ODMs, cosmetics company management, along with R&D, testing, packaging and regulatory affairs personnel are expected to attend.
