One of the leading beauty companies in Korea, AmorePacific, has just obtained certification for its latest skin brightening ingredient, a move that suggests it is pushing ahead with R&D for its skin whitening offering.

The ingredient has been given New Excellent Technology (NET) certification by Korea’s Ministry of Health and Welfare, and comes as the latest recognition of its innovation, according to the company.

“Currently, six domestic patents and 11 international patents are pending on this technology and seven SCI (Science Citation Index) level papers have already been published to prove the high level of innovation behind this new ingredient,” the company confirmed in a statement.

The ingredient is set to be applied to Aestura products, the company says, its medical beauty cosmetics brand for hospitals and medical clinics. Skin brightening is big business in Asia, forecast to grow at a CAGR of 11.2% up until 2020, according to a market report by Global Industry Analysts.

Functionality

The ingredient works by mimicking the effect of Kazinol F, an extract of the park and root of paper mulberry that AmorePacific previously found to have a strong brightening effect.

The new ingredient builds on this innovation, according to AmorePacific, imitating and enhancing the effect of Kazinol F through the use of a 3D molecular model.

This ingredient is far more stabilized and has better skin brightening effect than Kazinol F. AmorePacific proved its effect and safety through cell, artificial skin testing and clinical demonstration,” the company stated.

Global confirmation

Lee Jon-whan, the director of AmorePacific Corporation Applied Research Center, said the certification acts as confirmation of the company’s established profile on the global stage.

"This NET certification means that AmorePacific’s sincere efforts to develop new beauty ingredients has been been globally recognized. We'll continue to introduce new justable outcome effective functional cosmetics with our own original and distinguished technology," he said.

The NET (New Excellent Technology) certification is national certification given to new health science technologies developed for the first time in Korea, to recognise innovation and strengthen the profile of domestic output.
