Over the past year, the Southeast Asian nation has emerged as a leading producer of skin care items that revolve around pollutant-protection properties and natural ingredients that aid wellness.

Global market intelligence provider, Mintel, highlights the top four product developments in the skin care and personal care markets, indicating on-trend developments and industry evolution.

Natural spa influence

Local Asian fragrance developers that utilise botanical ingredients are having a considerable influence on the manufacturing of soap, bath and shower product categories within the region.

Siam Choice’s Thai Mangosteen and Orchid Natural Spa Shower Gel is one such example in Thailand, which provides a source of inspiration to other emerging brands by utilising natural ingredients to cleanse the skin without creating dryness.

The shower gel also supports the hybridisation trend as it contains carefully-chosen mangosteen extract containing antioxidants while offering acne inflammation protection.

Sun-time awareness

Active beauty is a growing and prominent trend in 2017, with Thailand proving a popular adopter of lifestyle-related products. Thai beauty buyers are increasing the level of activity in their lives to progress their health and fitness efforts.

Sun care protection has been at the centre of this development and is still a fundamental element of the Southeast Asian beauty and personal care industry.

With a new and improved formulation, Fuji relaunched its Sunscreen Cream including waterproof BB. It is marketed as a foundation replacement that is also easy-gliding and sweat-proof.

Looking after your teeth

Speciality elements that provide value-added benefits and high efficacy are in significant demand in the Thai beauty and personal care market.

Multiple benefits are also high on the list of consumer preferences as all-in-one products with active ingredients, or in concentrated formulas are seeing a rise at the counter.

Tree Herb’s Natural Herbal Extract Toothpaste markets itself as a spa toothpaste that contains herbal extracts to encourage good breath for 24 hours and support healthy teeth and gums.

Preventing the clock

Anti-pollution products are also a core segment within the Active Beauty arena. It is especially popular in Thailand due the country’s air pollution levels and demand from the middle-class demographic.

Cute Press Juvena White’s Anti-Aging Body Lotion contains an anti-ageing and whitening formula that strives to hydrate and nourish the skin to optimise its condition.

The product claims to strengthen, firm and whiten the skin, while also protecting skin cells from oxidation and pollution and preventing premature ageing.
