The natural and organic trend has already has a significant grip on Europe and North America and a focus on this type of ingredient at next month’s Cosme Tech event will demonstrate its growing importance in Asia.

The event, which also includes the Cosme Tokyo show, is a one-stop shop for the entire cosmetics supply chain from packaging and formulation all the way up to finished goods, and is establishing itself to be one of the biggest in the Asia Pacific region as well as worldwide.

This year a number of innovations in the natural and organic arena are being platformed by suppliers from across the world in the event's ingredients zone, including Ylang Ylang from Madagascar, dessert lime oil from Australia, organic certified ethanol and a bioaptive derived from scallop shells.

Ylang Ylang is offered as an essential oil by Biolandes and is being marketed as an all-round ingredient for both hair care and skin care formulations, with the added bonus of a natural fruity fragrance.

'Tset' is showcasing the Bio-apitate derived from scallop shells, which is described as being highly biocompatible for a wide range of product formulations.

There will also be a number of presentations as part of the conference program, that focus on the subject of organic and natural, including one given by Dr. Kieko Saito from the University of Shizuoka, focusing on the novel utilization of tea plant for skin health.

Another presentation, entitled ‘Combination of natural essence from seaweed’ will be given by Takashi Fujita, from Ritsumeikan University, which will focus on research that highlights how this ingredient is effective at building a barrier on the skin and relieving it of discomfort.

From January 20 to 22 at Tokyo Big Sight; 700 exhibitors from 50 countries are expected to showcase around a “made-in-Japan cosmetics" theme, a sector that is increasingly becoming renowned worldwide for its high quality and reliable formulations.

Despite this; organiser, Reed Exhibitions says many innovative products are yet to be discovered outside of Japan, especially those by small-and-medium-sized manufacturers and this is where they are bringing the two worlds together this year.

Made in Japan

As well as promoting products from Japan that are rarely seen in other parts of the world, this year the event will also see the introduction of two new areas – 'Sales Promotion / Marketing Zone' and 'Tools & Accessories '.

The event organizer is hoping that all of this will translate into a continued trend for increased attendance at the show.

In 2014, the total attendance rose to 20,754, and with next month’s event offering the most efficient sourcing opportunity for cosmetics manufacturers, buyers and all other professionals in the industry, the organizer is expecting a further increase in attendance numbers.
