Shiseido is establishing three new Life Quality Beauty Centers in Shanghai and Taiwan targeting consumers with serious skin problems.

The company is opening two centers in Taiwan – Taipei and Kaohsiung – as well as a third facility in Shanghai specifically targeting consumers with more serious skin concerns such as vitiligo.

The three premises will open next month, and reflect the company’s aim to expand ‘corporate social responsibility activities through cosmetics and beauty care'.

New direction aiming at social responsibility

Coinciding with the opening of the facilities, the company says it is also changing the name of its existing Social Beauty Center, situated at its head office in Tokyo, to the Shiseido Life Quality Beauty Center.

The center was opened in June 2006 as a means of support for individuals with serious skin conditions, and Shiseido says that the idea to rename it and develop the three additional facilities is meant to build on its success.

The company has been working with medical institutes to offer solutions to individuals with serious skin complaints since the early 90s and says the introduction of the new facilities and the name change represents an even greater commitment in this area.

Support for overseas customers

The company is also planning to extend the support of this service to consumers overseas from its headquarters in Japan, something that is claimed to put it in a unique position in the global personal care industry.

The Shanghai facility is due to open on April 14 and will provide consumers both with drop-in and reservation consultations that can be carried out in two private consultation rooms.

The two Taiwan facilities are both due to open on April 17, offering the same kind of facilities but on a smaller scale, each having one consultation room.

The facilities will be staffed by beauty therapist who have specific training in serious skin conditions, and will council individuals on a range of specially designed products that meet specific beauty requirements.
