R&D in the spotlight at in-cosmetics Asia

Next month will see this year’s in-cosmetics Asia event take place in Bangkok, with the show launching a new feauture this year: its ‘Interactive Formulation Laboratory’.

R&D is increasingly in the spotlight, thanks to dominant new trends which see consumers demanding multifunctionality from their products, increasingly across product categories, and also the continuing hype for ‘naturals’.

The dual trends of ever more natural/gentle ingredients and the increasingly blurred lines between products – such as haircare and fragrance, means research and development (R&D) continues to push the boundaries of what has been achieved so far,” the show’s organisers state.

In the lab

Aimed at R&D professionals, formulators and technical experts, the show’s new Interactive Formulation Laboratory will boast a purpose-built, fully-functioning lab, which will play host to various presentations throughout the first two days of the show.

The space will showcase the expertise and practical skills of leading industry players, who are set to present their technical knowledge, and explain theoretical and practical formulation tips.

Sophisticated product formulation has never been more vital as beauty consumers demand more from their make-up, skin and haircare routines,” in-cosmetics reps have noted.

Who’s presenting what?

The programme of interactive demonstrations is varied, and set to feature experts including Belinda Pilmore, Director at the Institute of Personal Care Science, who will be explaining the latest ‘green’ silicone replacements from a variety of suppliers.

Addison Chung, senior marketing manager at BASF East Asia regional HQ, will also demonstrate, showing visitors the company’s SWOP (Switch-Oil-Phase) Emulsion Technology.

Rain Shen, application and technical support manager, Personal Care, Gattefossé, China will explain explain how to create a moisturising cream with a sensorial feel, and visibly improved skin appearance.

Speaker Belinda Pilmore, director at the Institute of Personal Care Science, says the new lab will “helpR&D technicians to understand how they can then apply that innovation to their own products, [and] also gives both speakers and show visitors the chance to discuss applications for various ingredients and share any questions they may have with like-minded professionals.”
