Personal care manufacturer Ashland Specialty Ingredients (ASI) has won the China Personal Care & Cosmetics Innovation Award 2014, recognising Actopontine biofunctional ingredient for its anti-aging properties and improving skin firmness and elasticity.

"Ashland is proud to receive the China Personal Care & Cosmetics Innovation Award. It reinforces our position of providing world-class personal care ingredients, and active research to innovative new product solutions."

Elasticity and density

The bio-engineered peptide supports matrix-forming systems improving skin elasticity and density, according to Ashland, who developed it in response to consumer demand.

"Ashland is passionate about the personal care industry, and our deep market understanding and continuous lab trials help ensure that our products perform well in the lab and in the marketplace," says Michael Ling, technical service manager, Care Specialties, Ashland Specialty Ingredients, Asia Pacific.

Skin biology

Actopontine biofunctional is inspired by the latest advances in the role of dermatopontin in matrix-forming systems.

Learning from the shell matrix in various organisms, Ashland’s skin biology team discovered that dermatopontin is key to the architecture of the shell matrix but also critical to build and rebuild the skin matrix which degrades with age.

"We will continue to launch new products and solutions to enable customers to continue winning in the competitive and dynamic personal care marketplace," concludes William Zhao, regional sales director, Ashland Specialty Ingredients, Greater China.

Activity

The nucleotides dampen the effect of infrared and ultraviolet radiation on the appearance of skin, according to the new studies showcased.

Ashland shows that the skin defence effects of its GP4G SP biofunctional compound which is designed for use in formulations to better manage the appearance of skin following exposure to solar and thermal shocks.
