11,000 petition against animal testing in India
A petition has been signed by 11,000 Indians protesting against the sale and import of cosmetics tested on animals, according to Human Society International.

The document, which was part of a campaign run by Humane Society International/Be Cruelty Free, was presented to drug controller general of India G.N. Singh in his office in New Delhi.

Alokparna Sengupta of Humane Society said that the Indian government had “rightly” recognized that animal testing of cosmetics was morally unjustified.

He stated: “It is vital that we do not allow Indian shops to become a dumping ground for the animal-tested cosmetics from other countries.”

“As October is the month in which Mahatma Gandhi, a proponent of ahimsa (non-violence) was born, it is the perfect time for India to ban the import and sale of such cosmetics.”
