Expert reveals emerging segment in re-structuring Asian skin

Whilst consumers in each market prioritise different beauty regimes, our expert reveals a new segment emerging that caters to all skin reconstruction efforts.

In this the fourth edition of ‘Asia in Focus’: a series that hones in on segments offering the most opportunities for the industry right now; Florence Bernardin reports new specialized restructuring treatments manufacturers are designing to support overnight reparation.

Most beauty regimes on the region, she tells CosmeticsDesign-Asia.com, are made of many steps including double cleansing, toner, emulsion, essence eye cream, and oils but rarely continue to hydrate the skin throughout the night.

As skin reconstruction is very active between 11 pm to 2am, it is important to provide enough moisture and nutrition during the night and manufacturers have now realised a gap in the market for this,” she explains.

Thus the sleeping pack, Bernardin says has been designed to be the last step of the beauty routine, and brands like Amore Pacific and China's Naruko are leading the way with top innovations.

Amore Pacific’s Laneige water sleeping pack is said to have seen success due to its' Beta-Glucan, anti-oxidant, and cell turnover accelerating ingredients “which provides intense hydration, vitality and a brightening effect.”

The Naruko brand has been continuously developing its' line of “Night Gelly” since 2005, which has grown to include hydrating, whitening, firming, repairing, soothing, and pore minimizer treatments.

Other products doing well on the market include elements like lavender oils to enhance better sleeping and those promoting anti-ageing additional benefits.

Packs are NOT masks

Unlike the traditional face mask, this Asia expert says these new applications do not need to be wiped or rinsed off after application and are designed to perform completely different functions.

"The segment has really taken off, particular those enhancing new benefits such as preventing skin problems caused by lacking of sleep to improve skin roughness," she says.

Bernardin says the qualities required for manufacturers to distinguish their packs from masks includes light viscosity, high water content, oils specialised to different skin needs, and strong moisturising properties that will last until the following morning.

Florence Bernardin is the CEO of 'Information & Inspiration', an agency that specialises in all that is the cosmetics industry in Asia, and will be back on the region next month reporting on what matters.
