ADF & PCd Shanghai 2018 prepares for Pentawards Conference packaging trends
Packaging designers and international brands are set to descend on Shanghai for The Pentawards Conference.

Packaging creations

Taking place between 28th-29th March 2018 at the Shanghai Convention and Exhibition Centre of International Sourcing, global household brands will discuss concepts and thinking, packaging design trends, industry insights, and practical scenarios and applications.

As part of ADF&PCD Shanghai 2018, The Pentawards Conference will welcome leading giants in packaging creations including Shiseido, Herborist, ForceMajeure, Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts, Centdegrés, Yang Design and BETC.

Conferences on these various influences and aspects of the packaging industry will be held over the course of the two-day event.

Latest trends

  • Design preferences

One of the headliners on day one of the creative showcase, Ippei Murata, Art Director of Packaging Design at Shiseido, will explore the theme of 'Designing for Millennials'. Organisers Easyfairs stated in a recent press release that this is “unarguably one of the most hotly debated topics within the packaging design community”.

Laurent Hainaut, President and Founder of ForceMajeure, will discuss the role and shape of packaging design within the retail sector, emphasising the importance of both interaction and responsiveness in future packaging designs. On day two, he will return to explore the power of smart packaging design to bridge the gap between building an online and offline packaging presence.  

  • It’s all in the story   

Sustainability and luxury are two core themes spearheading product development in the packaging arena. As such, Pradere Christophe, Design CEO & Founder at BETC, will be looking at ethical and sustainable packaging. While Gu Chuanxi, Professor at Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts, will delve into how luxury packaging designs can be transformed into a widespread brand experience.

  • Chinese marketplace

On day two, MS Xiaojing Huang, Strategic Director of Yang Design will examine up to date, contemporary Chinese design trends and cosmetics brand identities, amid consumer maturity. Xu Jun, Chief Designer at Herborist/Shanghai Jahwa will cover consumer behaviour trends in China, along with considering the impact that cultural and societal differences create in packaging.

  • Emerging areas

Matthieu Rochette-Schneider, Designer and General Manager Asia at Centdegrés will look at fast growth cosmetics spheres such as skin care for children.

A panel discussion will close both days of the show, debating: ‘What are the challenges and opportunities facing the global packaging design industry over the next 5 years?’.

Accolade nods

Along with The Pentawards Conference, ADF&PCD Shanghai will showcase The Pentawards Exhibit. This particular event segment will display a collection of 2017 award-winning packaging from around the world.
