A number of key topics will lead the programme at this year’s Sustainable Cosmetics Summit in Hong Kong, with ethical labelling high on agenda, alongside pollution, green ingredients and packaging.

The event will be held at the Excelsior Hotel, in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong  on November 14th and 15th, and has been planned to coincide with the big Cosmoprof Asia event, which is being held in the territory in the same week.

Organised by Organic Monitor, the event will include full presentation programme on the first day, followed by two workshops on the second day that will focus on the further of ethical labelling and sustainability in packaging.

Ethical labelling

The ethical labelling workshop touches on an area of growing importance in Asia, particularly as the region’s 1 billion Muslim consumers are increasingly looking out for cosmetics and personal care products that are Halal approved or certified.

This workshop will also include an update on the ISO standard for natural and organic cosmetics, as well as the label claims that are most likely to resonate with consumers, including fair trade and gluten-free.

With pollution continuing to rise through the region, particularly in big cities in Southeast Asia and in India, and while authorities in China continue to tackle the problem in its industrialised belts, cosmetic and beauty products with anti-pollution claims are becoming increasingly popular.

The best approach to anti-pollution claims

As part of the first day’s presentation programme, Alain Khaiat from Seers Consulting will discuss the emergence of anti-pollution skincare ingredients, demonstrating how a growing offering is touching on a broad spectrum of skin care product claims.

Other Seminars will include J. Rettenmaier & Soehne giving details of its green exfoliant range designed to replace plastic microbeads, while another will look at the abundance of beauty ingredients that are found at the UNESCO site of Jeju Island in South Korea.

Indeed, it is this island where Korean Beauty player Amore Pacific is known to source a number of the ingredients for its products, which runs alongside claims that it is one of the most sustainable multinational players in the beauty world.

Drilling down on these claims, Jun Seong Park will give a presentation on the company’s plans to lead the world in sustainability and how this will be carried out.

The Sustainable Cosmetics Summit will take place in Hong Kong between 14th and 15th of November. For more information, please click here.
