PCHi gets ready to introduce its inaugural technology summit and presents its agenda on sun protection and skin whitening topics.

New Technology Summit

Organisers of the annual Personal Care and Homecare Ingredients (PCHi) trade show, Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions (RSE), are now gearing up to launch its first-ever PCHi Technology Summit as an extension of its main show.

From 29th-30th August 2017, visitors will gather at OneHome Art Hotel in Shanghai, China, to provide personal care and cosmetics brands with the latest trends, regulatory insights and technological progression within the industry.

“The PCHi Technology Summit features a robust agenda fronted by experts from various organisations and associations,” emphasised Peter Liu, Project Manager, PCHi. It will provide “a solid professional platform for learning, networking, and knowledge-exchange”.

Consumer concerns

Sun protection and skin whitening remain key concerns amongst consumers, with UV protection claims increasing in prevalence.

As a result, multiple factors relating to sun protection and whitening are the main themes of this year’s newest addition to the RSE calendar.

The event is anticipated to welcome approximately 300 industry professionals from China, the wider APAC region and the globe, with manufacturers and personnel attending from the personal care ingredients, testing, packaging and regulatory affairs segments.

Key agenda events

The Chinese cosmetics industry is a hive of activity with colour cosmetics remaining a prominent growth market, along with the skin care segment.

With ongoing tensions between China and Korea amid the latter’s THAAD deployment decision, the summit will explain policies and regulations relating to the Chinese cosmetics and beauty market.

Brands are exploring innovative in-store concepts to boost offline consumer engagement sales. As such, the main forum on 29th August will cover 2017 trends in both skin care and colour cosmetics, with the department store retailing market as its specific focus.

Sun protection

Euromonitor International projections reveal that by 2021, global demand for sunscreen ingredients is expected to hit 52,000 tonnes.

On 29th August 2017, the sun protection forum will take place between 1.30pm-5.30pm. The impact of ageing through ultraviolet (UV), high energy visible light (HEV), infrared (IR) and other environmental factors will be the subject of discussion at the event’s sun protection platform.

With an emphasis on infant sun care, the mother and baby segment is growing in momentum. Attendees will explore the evaluation of the efficacy of sunscreen products and sunscreen and stabilisers: photochemistry and effects on protection performance. A group discussion will enable visitors to ask questions.

Skin Whitening

An all-day whitening forum will follow on 30th August from 8.30am-5pm to talk through skin pigmentation in the Asian marketplace. With skin applications an increasing concern amongst Asian consumers, the development and usage of plant-based raw materials for whitening is a popular area within the sector. An explanation on whitening product in-vitro testing, packaging and aesthetics for whitening products, along with the development and application of white ingredients will be the main topics presented at the forum.

Along with the conference, the technology summit will also have a co-locating miniature exhibition that will present various products. An awards ceremony will also take place to recognise outstanding achievements from around the world in the personal care and home care industries.

Visitor’s Club

While PCHi 2018 will present the visitors club, it will first be revealed at this summer's Technology Summit.

“With the new club, we hope to bridge communications with the personal care community and to further strengthen the PCHi brand name,” added Liu. “Industry members can expect an interactive platform that offers quality service and close support for all their networking and knowledge-exchange needs,” concluded Liu.
