Travel consumer goods provider Travelon has launched a new range of personal care products based on simple single dose sheets of paper for a range of products.

The eight strong range has been designed to provide consumers that are on-the-go or traveling with a simple and highly portable means of carrying everyday personal care products.

The range of personal care sheets includes a hand soap, laundry soap, conditioner, shaving cream, body wash and shampoo, together with a toothbrush with a built-in supply of toothpaste and some gentle cleansing wipes.

First range of its kind

Although the sheets technology is not new, Travelon national sales manager John Smith believes this is the first comprehensive personal care range available on the market.

"The range was first launched last fall and has captured our customers imagination and has consequently sold extremely well," he told CosmeticsDesign.com.

Interestingly Smith noted that the laundry sheets line, which he said was added almost as an afterthought, has gone on to become the top selling product in the range.

This type of sheet dispensing technology has been around for over ten years now, and first came to the fore in Asia in the form of mint mouth fresheners.

It started with on-the-go soaps...

However, its application for personal care products came some years later, when it was first used as an on-the-go alternative to soap.

Illinois-based Travelon sources the sheets and the basic dispensing technology from one of the world's biggest suppliers, based in China, and has added its own signature and design to the packaging.

The concept is very simple. The product is packaged in small plastic boxes, 1.75" wide and 2.625" wide. Flip the lid and a single sheet protrudes from the lip of the box, ready to be dispensed, each box containing 50 sheets.

How many sheets, sir?

The number of sheets required depends on specific requirements, but for most of the applications the company recommends one to six sheets.

All that is then required is that the sheet or sheets are dampened with a little tap water and then rubbed until it begins to dissolve into the appropriate type of foam or liquid.

Each product retails at $5.95 and the range is currently sold at a variety of US-based retail channels, including QVC, Magellan's, Luggage Online and The Traveler's Shoppe. There is also limited distribution in the UK market.
