World Wide Packaging (WWP) is investing in 17 new tubing and printing machines at its cosmetics packaging facilities in China.

Over the last three years the plastic tubes business at WWP has grown by over 300 percent annually and with further growth expected the company is looking to increase production capacity.

Increased capacity and new capabilities

Marketing manager Holly Benda told CosmeticsDesign.com that the new equipment will also enable the company to introduce “capabilities that will be new to the industry”.

WWP specializes in packaging for the cosmetics industry and manufactures a range of products including tubes, jars, compacts, lotion bottles and pumps. In the plastic tubes sector, the company claims to produce more tube heads and closures than all of its competitors combined.

Tubes business growing despite downturn

While many packaging firms have cut jobs and reduced capacity to adapt to the difficult economic situation, WWP is continuing to expand and invest.

Benda said: “We may be quite fortunate right now but our tubes division is ever growing.”

Breakdown of the new equipment

Below is a description from the company of the new tubing and printing machines being installed at its manufacturing facilities in China:

  • A new in-line six color silk screen machine and a new in-line eight color offset printing line that are built to spec and offer the tightest print tolerance from color to color in the industry.
  • A new high-speed, five layer co-extrusion tube line that has built-in safeguards to monitor wall thickness on every plastic tube WWP produces.
  • Six new heading machines and four new capping machines for enhanced head and cap designs.
  • Our new hot stamping machines to increase WWP’s decorating capabilities.

“The machines we selected to expand our tubes division are the most cutting edge technologies available in today’s marketplace,” said CEO and president Barry Freda. “As the industry leader, it is important that we invest back into our business to offer our clients the highest quality, most innovative plastic tubes in a very competitive market environment.”
