Intercos America, a leading worldwide manufacturer of make-up products has secured state investment to expand its production facilities in New York State.

The company will expand with the acquisition of new machinery to increase operations, the renovation of the existing facilities and the hiring of 45 new employees, which will be partly funded by a $500,000 grant from Empire State Development.

The initiative will also ensure that the 175 staff will be retained at the Rockland Country facility on a full-time basis, bringing the total workforce number to 220.

Focusing on emulstion expansion

“We will be able to move forward with our emulsion expansion project and continue to be a key employer in the region as well as increase our competitiveness in the cosmetics manufacturing industry,” said Intercos Group chairman of the board Dario Ferrari.

“This project will aid in permitting us to offer a new product category from the Intercos America facility to our US clients,” said Ferrari, who also stressed that the initiative helps it to reaffirm its commitment to Rockland County.

Ferrari added that the investment in the facility will help it to expand its product offering to its US clients, as well as serving as the launching pad to new technologies in the future.

Currently Intercos manufactures lipsticks, eye shadows, mascaras, foundations, powders and eye and lip liners, as well as colored emulsions and cosmetic pencils.

Maintaining competitivity

“We knew that in order to remain competitive in the cosmetics manufacturing industry, Intercos needed to expand its manufacturing capabilities,” said ESD Chairman & CEO Dennis Mullen.

The ESD grant is aimed at helping the business to further expand, as well as ensuring that the production facility remains an important employee within Rockland Country.

Although the company is specialized in make-up, it has also operated in the skin care segment since 2006 and has production facilities in the United States, Italy and China.
