June 15 is the date all cosmetic and personal care professionals should be marking on their calendars as this will be the day of the industry’s first ever virtual trade show (VTS).

With the global skin care market valued at $80bn in 2010 and still growing fast, there is a lot at stake in this dynamic and fast-moving market, where demand is currently driven by consumer desire for more effective and eco-friendly products.

Increasingly it is science-driven new technologies that are behind the latest products launches in this category, which means that staying ahead of the latest developments by attending key industry events is crucial.

But attending these events often takes up a significant amount of time as well as resources and investment, not to mention all the travel to and from the event and the increased carbon footprint this can incur.

You do not have to leave your desk to attend this event!

This is where virtual events pave the way forward, and Skincare Ingredients 2011 will be no exception. No travel, attendance is free and the entire visit can be pre-arranged and undertaken without leaving your desk.

The event starts at 2pm CEST, which is 8am EST – a time that allows for the maximum number of industry professionals from the major European, American and Asia-Pacific markets to attend at any given point in the day.

The show itself will consist of an exhibition hall with 15 sponsored booths occupied by some of the biggest players in the skin care ingredients business, including Evonik Goldschmidt, Cognis, Eastman, AAK, Dow Corning and Lipotec, as well as a comprehensive conference programme featuring presentations from top industry experts.

On the day of the event you can visit booths online to chat with company representatives manning the stands. This will allow you to network by exchanging business cards and to also discover the latest developments from different companies.

The conference programme has been designed to touch on all the most cutting edge themes that are driving the market, including the emerging markets, naturals and the ever-growing anti-ageing category.

The programme will kick off with a market overview by Vivienne Rudd of Mintel, who will talk about the latest developments in the skin care ingredients category and how technology is increasingly behind new launches.

Technology, green chemistry pre-biotics and emerging markets

Hitting on the naturals area, there will also be a presentation chaired by Cosmetics Design science reporter Katie Bird, about the increasingly important area of green chemistry, a phenomenon that is making the manufacturing process increasingly efficient and eco-friendly.

Two experts from ingredients developer Glycolic will join industry expert Stephen Daniells, senior editor of Nutraingredients USA to give presentations about the growing importance of pre- and pro-biotics in skin care formulations.

There will also be a segment on the emerging markets, chaired by myself, Simon Pitman, and featuring key presentations from Virgina Lee, senior research analyst with Euromonitor and Dr. Martin Rudolph, head of product development at Beiersdorf.

It is also worth mentioning that questions can be directed at the speakers both during and after the presentations, while recordings of the presentations can also be downloaded for those who cannot make the event on the day.
