Shin-Etsu launches new line of cosmetic silicones in the US
Comprising three separate ingredients – the KSG-360Z silicone gel emulsifier, the KSP-441 hybrid silicone powder and the DMF-2 high purity dimethicone fluid – each has been developed as an alternative to D5 siloxanes and D5 derivative materials.
Although the three ingredients are said to work well together, Shin-Etsu says they also offer independent performance properties as well as sensory benefits.
KSG-360Z hybrid silicone powder
KSG-360Z is claimed to offer smooth skin feel and organic compatibility that is suited to a range of SPF ingredients, while also offering active stabilization and low shear processing.
The ingredient is recommended to improve the active stability of a range of personal care products, anti-aging lines, skin care, sunscreens, foundations and lipsticks.
It is said to combine particularly well to provide stabilization to antioxidant additives such as vitamin C, which makes it particularly relevant for UV filters to boost SPF in sun care products.
KSP-441 hybrid silicone powder
KSP-441 has a soft sensory focus, absorbs sebum and reduces break-thru shine, while also offering high swelling capability, low surface energy and easy processing, Shin-Etsu claims.
It is said to act well as both a means of adding functionality to formulations, as well as improving skin feel in cosmetics such as anti-aging products, skin lotions, creams and serums, as well as color cosmetics such as foundations and mascaras.
DMF-2 high purity dimethicone fluid
The DMF-2 dimethicone is said to have a comfortable skin feel, is a light and dry volatile diluent and has a near zero skin irritancy, while also having high purity as well as offering ease of processing thanks to a high flashpoint and low combustability.
This ingredient is best suited to bring an enhanced sensory solution for color cosmetics such as foundation and make-up, as well as a wide variety of skin care, hair care and sunscreen products.
