Switzerland-based specialty chemicals company Lonza won the Best Ingredients gold award at in-cosmetics Asia for its Regenistem red rice ingredient.

Gold, Silver and bronze were awarded at the Asian event as part of the Innovation zone and Regenistem was awarded gold for its high material efficiency, sustainability and innovation, according to the judges.

Dr Tim Schlange, head of personal care, Lonza commented, “We’re delighted to have won this prestigious award. A great deal of hard work goes into researching and developing our ingredients and so to gain recognition for our product from leading professionals within the industry is fantastic”.

Himalayan extract

Regenistem is an extract of wild red rice found in the Himalayan region that is created in a laboratory using cells taken from the plant. The final product is added to topically applied formulations.

Lonza conducted both in-vitro and in-vivo testing. In-vitro testing found that the ingredient up-regulated the production of collagen and a protein called dermatopontin, which is found in the dermis.

In-vivo testing consisted of a 60 day clinical trial which found an increase in skin moisture, a reduction in pore size appearance and reduction in appearance of lines and wrinkles, when applied twice a day.

Runners up

All the entries were judged by a panel of industry professionals from across the world with the three winners chosen from a selection of eight finalists.

Silver was awarded to Lipotec for its hexapeptide, Adifyline that gives consumers a younger looking appearance, according to the company.

Bronze was given to Unipex for its active complex Capixyl, which is designed to prevent and stop the hair loss process and stimulate hair growth, according to the company.
