PCHi show proves to be bigger and better in Shanghai

The PCHi event, held in Shanghai last week, proved to be the biggest to date, with both exhibitor space and attendance numbers well up on the previous year.

This year’s event took place for the first time at the Pudong Expo Centre, at the heart of the city’s business district, which also serves as the trading post for China’s premier region for cosmetic manufacturers and suppliers to be located.

The Cosmetics Design team also attended the event for the first time, where a buzzing show hall underlined the extraordinary industry growth that has been seen in the cosmetics and personal care sector in the country over the course of the past few years.

Record attendance and exhibitor numbers

According to the show organizers, Reed Sinopharm, the event is likely to have attracted over 5,500 visitors during the three days it was held, although the official figures are still to be confirmed.

Lynn Xu, project manager for the PCHi event, organised by Reed Sinopharm, confirmed that the success of this year’s event had been fuelled by the fact that it was easily accessible to the many cosmetics and personal care market manufacturers and suppliers situated within the Shanghai industrial belt surrounding the city.

Shandong-based active ingredients manufacturer Topscience was exhibiting at the show for the first time and was aiming to increase its range of potential client contacts, particularly with respect to international markets.

Positive feedback and high level of customer interest

“So far we are very pleased with the way the show has gone for us,”​ said Topscience sales director Anne Zhiang. “It is only the second day of the show but already we have had very positive feedback and a high level of customer interest.”

“Our message here at PCHI is to convey to our existing customers and potential customer that we are an ingredient company that is focused on a philosophy of being green and underling environmental protection, while remaining committed to constantly improving and innovating.”

Global specialist chemical player was also making a splash with one of the bigger stands on the show floor. The company’s principle focus is supplying domestic Chinese players, but it is also intent on expanding its business to international players on the market.

Lubrizol eyes international players in China

“In China formulators are looking for ingredients that have a high level of functionality but are also looking for a quick turnaround from their suppliers as speed to market is of  the essence due to the fast pace of product launches,”​ said C.K. Tan, business director for Lubrizol’s Noveon Consumer specialties division.

The final attendance figures for this year’s event will be included in an exclusive Cosmetics Design interview with the event’s project director, Daniel Chan, which will be published in the course of the next week.

The interview will also include an insight into the principle objectives for this year’s event, as well as a look at the aims of the next years PCHi event, which will be held in Guangzhou, in the southern China province of Guangdong.
