Chemical distributor Univar has announced it will showcase a new range of formulations at its stand's Sensory Bar to demonstrate how to simplify the complex textural issues common to the industry at in-cosmetics in Barcelona next month.

Innovations on display are to include a new silicone gum from XIAMETER (PMX 1502 FLUID) and new products from Dow Corning, including two elastomers which are said to provide enhanced compatibility with organic ingredients.

"Texture is an important area of formulation, if it is poor, it will not appeal to consumers. With new ingredients being introduced to the market all the time, customers can find it challenging to ensure a consistent and pleasing texture in their products,” says Philippe Villequey, EMEA industry development manager.

Dow Corning's EL-7040 Hydro Elastomer Blend is also set to be highlighted at the show's Innovation Zone.

Compared to traditional silicone elastomers, this product blend provides enhanced formulation flexibility with its ability to incorporate high levels of water and/or glycerine while retaining a gel structure and the elastomer feel,” says Villequey.

Return of the Innovation Zone

The innovation zone is making a return to in-cosmetics this year, which will feature beauty product innovations hand-picked by Mintel and showcase over 50 new product launches.

Exhibitors taking part can compete for the honour of Best Ingredient Award 2012, with the winner announced during a presentation on 17 April.

Over 40 innovation seminars are taking place over the course of the event, with various suppliers including Dow Corning, BASF Beauty Care Solutions and Lubrizol presenting their latest ingredients and formulation techniques.

In-cosmetics

This year’s in-cosmetics event, held at the Gran Via exhibition centre in Barcelona from 17-19 April 2012, promises to be bigger than previous editions with already 11,700 m2 of floor space booked and over 530 exhibitors signed up.

The event will play host to more than 50 new exhibitors from countries including China, Korea and Switzerland, as well as welcoming back companies such as Croda, DSM and Merck.

Tying in with the Barcelona setting, the theme chosen for the in-focus feature in 2012 is ‘Solar Beauty’.

A Beach will form the centrepiece of the programme and will house a full-scale innovation platform, combining different interactive and entertaining areas, designed to help industry players evaluate the latest developments and anticipate future trends,” Cathy Laporte, group marketing manager for in-cosmetics, told CosmeticsDesign-Europe.com.

The theme will be echoed throughout the event with a solar trail pointing to exhibitors with Solar Beauty innovations and formulations, while the in-focus educational programme will feature a scientific seminar on sun protection.
