Cosmetics & Science Conference 2013 gears up for India launch in Mumbai
Launching for the first time in India and taking place in Mumbai from June 6-7, Cosmetics and Science 2013 is a two-day conference designed to shed light on challenges and critical areas within the cosmetics market.

The event is organized by UBM India and promises to cover R&D, regulation, market opportunities and consumer behaviour insights in the Indian cosmetics industry, a market that is forecast to grow strongly over the coming years as consumption of beauty products increases.

Indeed, according to the event organisers, the industry is predicted to grow at a CAGR of roughly 17 percent during 2010-14 on the back of changing lifestyles and growth in disposable income among the country’s middle classes.

Cosmetics and Science 2013 is divided into two separate streams, with featured speakers including representatives from Hindustan Unilever, Toshiki International, Mikasacosmetics and Procter & Gamble.

Two separate streams

In the regulatory and R&D landscape stream, sessions will explore the fast-growing cosmeceuticals sector and take a look at overcoming formulation challenges and exporting cosmetics among other topics.

Avani Mainkar, head product development (personal and nature care) at Marico, will discuss working with natural ingredients, while Steve Bidinger, president of MK Life, will provide an overview of the beauty devices as ‘skin care’ trend.

Meanwhile, in the Marketing and Consumer Behaviour Insights stream, sessions will examine marketing opportunities in the Indian cosmetics market and shed light on understanding consumer insight and innovation to explore untapped areas.

In a session entitled ‘Mapping the latest consumer attitudes, perceptions and trends with respect to personal care products - A case study’, Dr Colin D’Silva, associate director of communications at Procter & Gamble’s Prestige division, will look at developing products to suit the demographic situation and creating opportunities for new products.

Clinical trials post-conference workshop

On the second day of the event on June 7, Apothecaries’ CEO Brijesh Regal will lead a post-conference workshop focusing on cosmetic clinical trials.

Divided into five sessions, the comprehensive workshop will begin with the fundamentals of clinic trials and include a hands-on practice component for designing a protocol for a cosmeceutical clinical trial before rounding off with a question-and-answer session.

All in all, Cosmetics and Science 2013 is set to bring together over 80 high-level professionals from the cosmetics industry under one roof. For more information about the event, please click here.
