Informa forms joint venture targeting major new beauty event in China
UK-based Informa, owner of the Paris Beyond Beauty event, has formed a joint-venture with Shanghai Baiwen Exhibition, which organises the China Beauty Expo, the biggest beauty event in China.

According to the two companies, the aim of the venture is to ‘combine networks, processes and skills’, to expand the predominantly Shanghai-based events portfolio for the China Beauty Expo business to a pan-Asian audience.

“This is a strategically important and exciting move for Informa. The joint venture with Shanghai Baiwen Exhibition Company significantly strengthens our presence in the region, and increases our stake in the beauty and medical beauty industries globally,” said Peter Rigby, Informa’s CEO.

“China Beauty is the market’s most influential cosmetics exhibition, showcasing the world’s skincare, perfumes, make-ups, personal care and beauty accessories, packaging and cosmetics ingredients, attracting over 240k professional buyers.”

China Beauty Expo portfolio includes three events

Currently, the China Beauty Expo portfolio comprises three co-located exhibitions: Cosmetics China – the largest event with over 800 exhibitors; Cosmetech – with around 500 exhibitors; and Beauty Shanghai – with around 300 exhibitors.

Each of these three events has a specific focus, with Cosmetics China platforming finished products and formulation, Cosmetech focusing on equipment packaging and ingredients, and Beauty Shanghai centering on professional salons and spa products.

In total all three events attracted 1,657 exhibitors, covering a total exhibition space of 120,000sqm, which included companies from ten different countries, as well as group pavilions that totaled 257 direct international companies.

Looking at the visitor statistics, the combined audience of professional visitors to all three events was almost a quarter of a million people, from 82 countries and a total of 32 countries and municipalities throughout China.

Events get Beyond Beauty touch

Moving ahead with the development of the event portfolio, Beyond Beauty touches will be incorporated into the events next year, with the 2014 edition of the China Beauty Expo including a Zoom Asia, along with a Beauty Challenger Awards Asia.

“We will host a multitude of activities for leading brands in each category, generating more trade opportunities for all the participants,” stated the official Informa press release announcing the venture.

The venture is also targeting phenomenal growth in the China market for cosmetics and personal growth, which has even been insulated from the country’s recent economic slow down.

Informa is now well placed to tap into prolonged growth in the China cosmetics market. In the past five years cosmetics sales growth has remained well into double-digit figures, with total sales of $31.5 billion now making it the third largest market in the world, behind only the U.S. and Japan.
