Beyond Beauty ASEAN is looking to increase its footprint in the Southeast Asian cosmetics market having signed a memorandum that targets closer ties with the beauty industry in the Philippines.

The memorandum was signed between the organisers of the Beyond Beauty ASEAN event, which is scheduled to take place in Bangkok, Thailand, from September 18th – 20th, together with the Chamber of Cosmetics Industry of the Philippines (CCIP) and the Philippines Health and Wellness Society (PHWSI).

All three parties signed the memorandum at a press conference held at the Dusit Thani Hotel, in Manila on August 5th, which included 56 industry professionals and eight members of the media, as well as two visitors groups from the CCIP and the PHWSI.

Forging industry ties between Thailand and Philippines

According to Beyond Beauty, the main aim of the press conference was to demonstrate the backing from the Philippines government and the cosmetics industry for the Beyond Beauty ASEAN event with the aim of providing an increased platform for the industry, both in Southeast Asia and internationally.

As well as focusing on the cosmetics and personal care industry, the Beyond Beauty event in Bangkok also focuses on the spa and wellbeing sector, which is particularly important to both Thailand and the Philippines as it is an integral part of the massive tourism industry.

I believe the Philippines & Thailand have a lot in common and can tap on the respective strengths of each other to learn, grow and develop successfully in the years to come," said Ms.Cecilia Lucentales, president Of Philippine Health &Wellness Society.

Philippines is a fast growing and important market

Although the Thai economy has witnessed some significant growth spurts in recent years, the Philippines is now also starting to enjoy even faster economic growth, albeit from a lower base.

The Philippines has a population of almost 100 million and as the consumer base starts to enjoy greater spending power off the back of the economic growth, this is translating into an increased spend on increasingly more up market cosmetic and personal care products.

The organisers of Beyond Beauty ASEAN – Bangkok 2014 in conjunction with World Spa & Well-being Convention are predicting over 400 exhibiting companies and some 15,000 visitors at the event when it opens its doors next month.
