Australian company develops natural-based line targeting Asian skin
Melbourne-based Baxter Laboratories has upped its presence in the skin care arena with its first ever product line specifically developed for Asian skin types.

The line, which is called Fresh Radiance, has been developed on the basis that Asian skin generally has a thicker dermal layer and a higher concentration of collagen and incorporates protection against both sunlight and ageing.

"Given regulatory considerations and registration constraints, the range is expected to be launched firstly in ASEAN countries in early 2015, followed by Hong Kong and China later in the year," said Brent Baxter, company director, who also added that the distribution would be in pharmacists and department stores.

Developed at Baxter Laboratories' facilities in Australia for the China market, the company says the new line is the result of extensive research into consumer needs throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Targeting the high expectations of Asian consumers

“Customers across Asia have high expectations from the products they buy, and products which are made in Australia are highly regarded in the region,” said Joyce Ho, from Baxter Laboratories Hong Kong.

What is also particular with this line of products is the fact that it contains natural fruit-based ingredients sourced from Northern Australia, including Kakadu Plum extract, and other fruit extracts sourced from Queensland.

Kakadu Plum is a native superfruit that is sourced in the Northern Territory, surrounding the famous Kakadu National Park, and is known to be the world’s richest source of Vitamin C, in turn giving it strong anti-oxidant, protective and anti-ageing properties.

"The fruit is cultivated on proprietary farms in northern Australia, which allows standardized quality and traceability," added Baxter.

Bioactive fruit complex

The range also contains a bioactive complex created from papaya, pineapple and mango grown in the farming belts of Queensland and used to nourish the skin and protect it from free radicals thanks to its antioxidant properties.

According to the company, clinical trials have shown that the Fresh Radiance line is particularly effective for improving radiance and boosting skin luminosity, qualities that are particularly sort after amongst Asian skin care consumers.

"The range was developed after 12 months of research which culminated in the claims, specific ingredients and aesthetics present in the Fresh Radiance skin range," said Baxter.

Baxter Laboratories is currently preparing for the skin care line’s official launch, which will take place at the forthcoming Cosmoprof Asia event, being held in Hong Kong, November 12 – 14. The company’s stand is 1E-H2G, which is a part of the Australia Pavilion.
