in-cosmetics Asia, considered the leading exhibition and conference in the region, is due to take place next week in Bangkok, allowing hundreds of global personal care ingredient suppliers to exhibit their products.

Running from 4 - 6 November, the trade show will also feature a full and free programme of talks and presentations from industry experts, who will reveal and explain new market data, case studies and insights.

Here, Cosmetics Design draws up the highlights of this year’s show.

Japan in focus

The ‘country focus’ of this year’s in-cosmetics Asia event is Japan, with show organisers noting that with retail value sales units worth US$39 billion, Japan ranks as the world's 4th largest cosmetic market and “is renowned for its quality products”.

The Japan Country Focus involves a dedicated programme of events, from seminars to product displays, intended to throw a spotlight onto the market.

Some of the highlights of this include the ‘What is Happening in Japan?’ and ‘What is Coming Next in Japan?’ presentations from regional expert Florence Bernardin, and a talk from Judi Beerling, head of the technical research division at Organic Monitor, on the Japanese market for natural cosmetics.

Regulation in Asia

Another key area in the education programme’s focus is regulation, with the discussions set to be led by a panel discussion on the challenges and opportunities facing the ASEAN thanks to the upcoming AEC, which is set to reduce tariffs and remove trade barriers.

Another presentation, given by Dr Alain Khaiat, CEO of Seers Consulting, will discuss the different regulatory models which are prevalent in countries across Asia, giving an overview of the different systems across China, Korea and Japan, with a focus on the newly introduced amendments.

A global view

Many of the remaining presentations will situate the regional concerns of the Asian beauty market within a global context.

Shilpi Mehrotra, consultant with Kline, will speak on the ‘Latest Trends On The Global Personal Care Ingredients Markets’, and a presentation on ‘Global Trends In Beauty And Personal Care: Opportunities For The Future’ will be given by Pei Ying Loh, Research Analyst, Euromonitor International.

Another key presentation on the theme of a global context will be offered by Ramaa Chipalkatti, Senior Analyst, Consumer Insights , Datamonitor, on ‘Trends to Watch in Hair Care’.
