Croda: ‘As East meets West we see oil-based product popularity soar’

Oil-based products have soared in popularity over recent times and cleansing oils are part of this upsurge, taking influence from Asia in what ingredients supplier Croda is calling the ‘East meets West’ trend.

At the in-cosmetics event in Barcelona, CosmeticsDesign-Europe.com spoke with Adeline Coulson, Lead Application Scientist at the UK firm, about the launch of Cithrol 10GTIS, an advanced surfactant for oil-based facial cleansing.

“The benefits of oils to the skin and hair have long been known but more recently emulsions have become the standard format for cosmetics, particularly in the West, as we see influence from the East,”​ she tells us.

“We continue to see the influence of Eastern inspired formats in Personal Care and one of the strongest areas of inspiration is the multi-step skin care routines popular in Japan and Korea where cleansing plays a key role.”

Microemulsions and oil cleansers are a new generation of cleansing products, delivering good performance and meeting the trend in using oils in skin care.

Croda’s Cithrol 10GTIS is an ideal surfactant for creating microemulsion and facial cleansing oils, as it is very mild, provides effective emulsification on contact with water, ideal for these systems, and is stable with a wide variety of cosmetic oils, explains Adeline.
