Givaudan leverages popularity of traditional Chinese medicine with Draco Natural Products collaboration
Flavour and fragrances company, Givaudan, enters into a strategic alliance with extract ingredients manufacturer, Draco Natural Products, to explore the power of traditional Chinese medicine in product development.

Principles of traditional Chinese medicine

Givaudan’s Active Beauty business, announced on 3rd October 2017, that it was using traditional Chinese medicine knowledge to offer a new new proprietary product line.

The upcoming range will feature bioactive botanical ingredients for the use in its active beauty business.

Following the decision to team up, the duo will jointly commit to the research and development of active botanical ingredients, created using the principles of traditional Chinese medicine.

The selection of ingredients will primarily be used to formulate topical and on-trend cosmetics items that strive to improve and enhance skin and hair health.

Pairing history with innovation

The tastes and scent developer explains how this new partnership reflects Givaudan’s 2020 strategic goals and how it plans to grow its active beauty business: “We are always looking for innovative solutions and Draco brings to us an impressive expertise in effective naturally-derived products,” Maurizio Volpi, President Fragrance Division at Givaudan explained.

To match consumer demands, Givaudan now looks to “enhance these ingredients and make them ideal for our skin and hair care active beauty ingredients portfolio” following calls for “products that contribute to their health and wellbeing”.

Natural extracts segment contribution

Draco Natural Products supplies botanical extract ingredients for nutritional supplements, functional foods, over-the-counter retail sales and personal care.

The US manufacturer produces standardised extract ingredients made from herbs, fruits, vegetables and mushrooms. It has developed a proprietary extraction process which enables the delivery of “distinctive, traceable and sustainable” extracts. The company is renowned for its formula creation that uses traditional Chinese medicine principles as it foundation.

“We are very excited about this partnership,” said Jerry Wu, President and CEO of Draco. “Givaudan is a top notch company with a long history of innovation, and our combined expertise will allow us to bring natural solutions for customers’ brands.”

“With this strategic partnership, we will introduce to the market unique products that have been designed using natural extracts, that follow the principles of traditional Chinese medicine, and that use all the knowledge of modern science,” endorsed Laurent Bourdeau, Head of Givaudan’s Active Beauty business.
