Shantou New Oriental Hotel Amenities receives a HAB Halal certificate to help broaden its position in the Halal certified cosmetics market.

Halal standards organisation, the Halal Authority Board (HAB), has awarded the professional high-end manufacturer with a Halal certificate.

The Muslim population amounts to approximately one-quarter of the global population (1.8 billion), Shantou New Oriental Hotel Amenities noted in a recent press release. In 2016, Halal cosmetics consumers spent approximately $27 bn (€23.3 bn), it continued.

As this may increase to $39 bn (€33.6 bn) by 2019, the amenities company, which first entered the market in 2007, hopes to appeal to multinational companies and mass consumers in search of safe and clean cosmetics.

Considering the Chinese market as a whole, the Halal cosmetics sector remains in “its infancy stage”​, reveals Shantou New Oriental Hotel Amenities.

Regulatory considerations

Taking into consideration, and in respect of customs and habits, the company explains that it has created and introduced a number of rigorous regulations exploring raw material purchasing, warehousing, transportation, manufacturing and sales management.

These have been designed to promote the growth of Halal certified cosmetic products and regulate Halal management internally, along with providing a stable foundation to help the development of new markets and new customers.

Certification needs

Its focus on Halal certifications is its latest effort as it “constantly optimises the standardisation of production management system, and improves product quality and safety performance”​, Shantou New Oriental Hotel Amenities stated.

Along with being the first company in Guangdong, China to receive ISO22716 Certification, the company also noted that it has received in Europe Ecocert Natural & Organic Cosmetics Licence and Certification, US Global Security Verification Certification, British Carbon Footprint Verification Certification and the Certificate of Conformity (Recycled Material), among others. 

As it expands research areas, it has cooperated with personal care product research centres to understand the international skin care product market. It also explores natural and organic trends to develop and upgrade personal care product formulation and obtain certification within the natural and organic landscape.
