Nouryon launches sunscreen ingredient for high protection formulas
Nouryon has launching a new film-forming polymer that has been designed to help meet a variety of consumer trends trends, particularly demand for high protection products.

Nouryon, which was formely AkzoNobel Specialty Chemicals, until October of this year, has officially launched the new film-forming polymer, called Dermacryl X.

The company used last week's Society of Cosmetics Chemist's 72nd annual Scientific Meeting & Technology Showcase in New York City as the launching platform for the new ingredient.

Higher protection sunscreens redefine the category

The company says that the development of Dermacryl X stems from consumer demand for more effective and stronger sunscreen products, a trend that is now serving the redefine the sunscreen market.

“There is an increasing demand from consumers for higher sun protection factor (SPF) sunscreens that offer longer wear protection and water resistance, as well as improved feel on the skin,” said Jens Müller, Global Technical Marketing Manager Personal Care at Nouryon.

“We have created Dermacryl X to fill this gap. It enables our customers to create the finest rub-on sun protection products requiring an SPF greater than 50, as well as market-leading water and wear resistance. It also reduces the stickiness and oily feel of rub-on sunscreen products without compromising on strong SPF protection.”

Nouryon builds on its sunscreen portfolio

Together with Dermacryl 79, an industry-leading film former for continuous spray sunscreens, Nouryon now has a competitive product offering for the entire sunscreen market.

“We are very excited to announce this product, which reflects our focus on sustainable innovations that help us support the growth of our customers,” said AB Ghosh, Managing Director of Nouryon’s Surface Chemistry business.

“It also strengthens our offering in one of our most important end-use market sectors.”

Nouryon buys Akzonobel specialty chemicals business

At the beginning of October Nouryon confirmed that it had completed all the requirements to buy Akzonobel's specialty chemicals business, expanding its footprint in the global cosmetics and personal care arena.

At the time, Nouryon company executives said the deal would enable it to expand on its ambitions to become an independently-owned global specialty chemicals company.

Besides personal care, it also serves a wide number of industries that include paper, plastic and construction materials
