Flavours and fragrances company Givaudan has acquired a UK speciality fragrance manufacturer, which is said to have a strong presence in key geographies such as the UK, Africa and South East Asia.

Fragrance Oils specialises in perfumery essences and natural herbal extracts for use in the fine fragrance, personal care, air care and household cleaning sectors.

The company is headquartered in England and services over 90 countries. In particular, the high-growth export markets, which Givaudan hopes to leverage to strengthen its geographical footprint.

“Over recent years, we have taken several steps in strengthening our capabilities to serve local and regional customers in the most effective way. Fragrance Oils brings another strong set of capabilities thanks to their focus on operational excellence as well as their presence in key geographies such as the UK, Africa and South East Asia,” said Maurizio Volpi, President of Givaudan’s Fragrance Division.

The terms of the deal have not been disclosed, however, Givaudan said Fragrance Oils’ business would have represented approximately GBP50m ($61.2m) of incremental sales to Givaudan’s results in 2018 on a proforma basis.

The acquisition will give Givaudan access to Fragrance Oils’ state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Radcliffe, UK.

String of acquisitions

This move follows a string of fragrance acquisitions this year by Givaudan, including its takeover of Drom and Albert Vieille SAS

The acquisition of Albert Vieille SAS was completed in May while the Drom deal is expected to close in the third quarter of 2019.

Last July, Givaudan also acquired Expressions Parfumées and its CHF20m ($20.3m) investment in the French firm’s facilities in Grasse to modernise its R&D laboratories, digitalise its production facilities and outfit them with robotics.

CEO of Givaudan, Gillies Andrier said these investments reflect the company’s 2020 ambition to “assert our leadership position”.

“We are delighted to welcome the Fragrance Oils employees into the Givaudan family and are convinced that their know-how, talent and operations capabilities will greatly contribute to our common future success,” said Andrier.

Martin Potts, CEO of Fragrance Oils added: “Givaudan is a business that we have always held in the highest regard. We share a passion for creative flair, operational excellence and the importance that we place on our people to support our customer’s requirements in an increasingly agile market place. Fragrance Oils has a proud past and as part of the Givaudan family, we look forward to building on this legacy as part of the visionary 2020 strategy.”
