The partnership, announced today, expands the reach of Geltor’s animal-free, GMO-free collagen proteins, making the biotech ingredients available to personal care and beauty makers across the Asia-Pacific.

“Geltor is thrilled to be partnering with a world-class distribution partner of Connell’s caliber,” Alex Lorestani, CEO and co-founder of Geltor, tell the press.

“The team’s uncompromising commitment to excellence in all they do has been palpable from the start of our relationship. It’s an honor to be working with Connell to bring the benefits of Geltor’s ingredients to customers across the Asia-Pacific region,” says Lorestani in today’s media release about the company’s new distribution partnership.

Designer proteins

“Geltor makes proteins,” as Cosmetics Design noted in an item just a few months back.“The California-based biotech company founded in 2015 by Alex Lorestani and Nick Ouzounov is in the business of identifying proteins that exist in the natural world and replicating them with biotechnology.”

This method of production results in ingredients that are classified as non-GMO, animal-free, and halal, making them suitable for use in formulations that can be enjoyed by a markedly diverse range of consumers.

To date, Geltor makes 2 collagens for the beauty industry: Collume (previously called N-Collage) and HumaColl21, which was launched earlier this year at in-cosmetics global in Paris and is bioidentical to a human collagen protein.

The collagens, when “used in skin care formulations, [create] biocompatibility with human skin, while being produced both more sustainably and ethically than animal-sourced collagens. These versatile ingredients can be used in new ways to meet evolving customer needs, as in making halal products for the growing Muslim beauty market,” explains a today’s media release circulated by Connell.

An innovative market

Asia is home to well over 1 billion Muslim people and well-known for its innovative beauty markets too.  Indeed, in January, ACH launched its Real Eye Cream for Face product in Korean with a formulation that includes HumaColl21. And thanks to Geltor’s new distribution deal with Connell, more such skin care product launches are likely in the region.

“I am deeply impressed with Geltor’s approach to innovation,” Azita Owlia, president and CEO of Connell, tells the press. And she goes on to add that “It’s intensely focused on solving customer problems, just like we do at Connell. We hold ourselves responsible for bringing our customers the latest innovations to help them meet the needs of their own customers. These days, sustainability is a top priority for consumers. Alliances with companies like Geltor help our customers stay on top of their game.”

And sustainability is very much a part of the Geltor story. As Lorestani pointed out (in his remarks at a Sparks & Honey culture briefing in September), the bio tech production process can be more sustainable and more ethical than current conventional ingredient sourcing methods.

The Geltor – Connell collagen-ingredient distribution partnership is expected to take effect immediately.
