Australian clean cosmeceutical brand Biologi has introduced what it believes is its most exciting launch to date – an anti-pollution serum that features a wild-harvested extract that contains vitamin C, niacinamide, and salicylic acid.

The clean cosmeceutical brand is best known for its single plant extract serums that it achieves through its proprietary extraction cold liquid extraction closed system (CLECS II).

The company recently announced the launch of the Bg Defence Anti-Pollution Serum. Billed as the ‘ultimate daytime protector’, the serum claims to defend against daily environmental triggers and aggressors.

“We developed our latest innovative serum, Bg Defence, because free radicals and oxidative stress from environmental assault are one of the biggest concerns for the skin. Bg Defence is a super serum, designed to shield and protect your skin against environmental assault like blue light and pollution every day,” founder of Biologi, Ross Macdougald, told CosmeticsDesign-Asia.

With more information about environmental pollution, there has been a rising demand for products that protect against a host of environmental aggressors, such as dust, sun rays as well as blue light.

“It’s no secret that anti-pollution products are a trend – and rightly so – but this is one of the first natural versions that we’ve seen on the market. So instead of buying a product laden with synthetic ingredients, you can get a natural version that is still active, yet safe for the skin,” said Macdougald.

Wild-harvested hero

The Bg Defence Anti-Pollution Serum is the latest in Biologi’s signature range of serums and contains strawberry gum leaf extract as its hero ingredient.

“The strawberry gum tree is a rare species because it is not plantation grown, instead it is wild-harvested from the southern side of the Great Dividing Range,” said Macdougald.

While there were many anti-pollution beauty products on the market today, Macdougald highlighted that strawberry gum leaf extract was a “superior” protective beauty ingredient given how rich it is in protective phyto-actives.

“What makes it so interesting is the fact that we extract the serum from the leaf of the plant and bottle it in its natural form. Thanks to our extraction technology, we’ve been able to extract a natural plant serum and keep it stable – and 100% active – making it a safe choice for most skin types.”

With this interesting combination, the new serum helps to “shield against blue light and environmental pollution, whilst boosting skin’s glow and overall texture,” said Macdougald.

Furthermore, the serum has a natural floral note that comes from the extract.

Most plants carry their scent in the leaf and as our first leaf extract serum, we’ve been able to draw across this floral scent. This is unlike our other serums which have a different odour profile because they are extracted from the fruit,” said Macdougald.

The company described this serum as its “most exciting launch” to date.

“The reason it’s our most exciting launch is due to the incredible powers found in the one single ingredient. Strawberry gum leaf extract has a unique phyto-active combination of vitamin C, niacinamide and salicylic acid – an unheard-of trio combination in traditional skincare, but found in nature that boosts skin glow, improves the texture of skin all while protecting and shielding your skin from environmental aggressors,” said Macdougald.

“Our Bg Defence Anti-Pollution Serum is a gamechanger, and all due to a delicate leaf that has incredible protective powers for the skin… Put simply, there is no other product like it on the market.”
