Moving the needle: E.S.K on vast opportunities for microneedle skin care with ‘unrivalled results’

Microneedle patches have very fine spikes that painlessly penetrate the skin barrier and deliver actives into the skin as it dissolves. Such products have been cropping up in the market commonly in the acne care category.

Given its wide-ranging applications, E.S.K founder Dr Ginni Mansberg, believed there was potential to develop more microneedle skin care products.

“Microneedle patch technology can be used for a variety of reasons, allowing faster delivery of ingredients into the deeper layers of the skin. As evidence emerges for these microneedle patches to address and correct other concerns, you can be sure we will harness the technology to do just that.”​

The demand for such products was being driven in part by the popularity of micro-needle treatments, said Mansberg.

“Micro-needling as a treatment in a clinic or salon has grown in popularity over the years thanks to its ability to treat a variety of skin conditions such as crow’s feet, wrinkles, enlarged pores and acne scarring.”​

However, she added, such treatments could be uncomfortable to some people, and microneedle patches like the Ageless Microneedle Patches offer themselves as a more friendly alternative.

“​New technology has been developed that uses dissolving high molecular weight hyaluronic acid anti-ageing microneedle patches incorporating various anti-ageing ingredients, which have been successfully used in reducing fine lines and wrinkles. These patches combine the advantages of micro-needling with super high tolerability and the ease of being able to do it at home.”​

Runaway hit

Last September, the brand launched the Ageless Microneedle Patches designed to tackle fine lines and wrinkles anywhere on the face.

The patches comprise 2,000 dissolving microneedles that melt under the surface of the skin for improved delivery of active ingredients, such as retinal, niacinamide, and copper peptide. Each dissolving needle is 0.3mm in length and can reach the deeper layers of the skin painlessly.

Mansberg told CosmeticsDesign-Asia​ that the product launched with great success and was currently facing issues meeting demand due to their high popularity.

“They were launched in September last year and were instantly popular thanks to proven results, and the popularity continues to grow. We recently sold out of these patches in one day, so the demand is still high.”​

In addition to the Ageless Microneedle Patches, the company has also developed Spotless Microneedle Patches which help to banish and fade early-stage pimples.

“These tiny needles can painlessly penetrate the skin barrier where they create a micro-wound which stimulates wound healing. Plus, they create little tunnels for these ingredients to get through to the skin where they can work their magic,” ​said Mansberg.

Furthermore, she hinted that the company is set to launch a new microneedle patch soon to follow up on the success of previous launches.
