Local heroes: PCHi Fountain Awards 2025 features strength of China industry

The Fountain Awards by Personal Care and Homecare Ingredients (PCHi) showcased the growing strength of China’s local ingredient companies.

The winners of the Fountain Awards were announced on February 19 in Guangzhou, China.

The awards are the signature event of PCHi, which aims to honour achievements in product development and technology innovation.

The Fountain Awards recognises a wide range of ingredients, including anti-ageing, microbiome, skin barrier repair, and sustainability.

In addition, it also recognises the people behind the hard work with awards such as the Best Newcomer Award and Outstanding Individual of the Year Award.

This year, out of the 28 ingredient winners, 13 were awarded to products developed by Chinese companies.

This included Bo Chi Bio-chemical, Coachchem Technology, Jiahua Chemical/Bowei Chemical, Ruijiming Biotechnology, Synlight Biotech, Trautec Medical Technology, Winkey Technology, Youke Biotechnology, and Zhongke Zhongzhi Biotechnology.

Shanghai Oli Enterprises and Nutri-Woods Bio-Tech walked away with multiple awards.

The former won a UV Stabilising gold award for OLP-3100 Cellpolypid Zinc Oxide, while its Cellpolypid-MBH won a silver award for Moisturising/Hydrating category.

Nutri-Woods Bio-Tech also scored a gold award for Circumpro under the Anti-Pollution category, and a silver award for FlexiGlu 992 under the Skin Barrier Repair category.

“This award is a testament to the strength of our research and innovation capabilities. The Fountain Awards is one of the most recognisable awards in the industry and we’re happy to have walked away with multiple awards,” said Maggie Lin, head of marketing, Nutri-Woods Bio Tech.

Other companies that walked away with awards that night included Ashland, Azelis, BASF, Dow, DSM Vitamins, Exymol SAM, Evonik, Gattefosse, Ichimaru Pharcos, Lucas Meyers Cosmetics by Clariant, Seppic, Solabia, Symrise, Wacker.

Furthermore, the Best Newcomer Awards went to Du Yijie from Nutri-Woods and Fang Huang from JAKA Biotech.

The Outstanding Individual of the Year Award when to three nominees, including Liu Zijian from Winkey Technology, Amandine Scandolera from Givaudan, and Zhang Peng from Nutri-Woods.

This edition of the awards received a total of 258 product submissions, up 15% from 221 the previous year.

The submissions undergo evaluation by a panel of judges, which includes scientific researchers, seasoned industry veterans, and members of PCHi’s Cosmetics Science & Technology Innovation Committee (CSTIC).

“In 2024, China remained a key player in the global cosmetics market, navigating both challenges and opportunities... By the of 2024, 58 companies have successfully registered over 90 new cosmetics ingredients. An impressive 30.4% increase compared to previous years.

“The rise of new ingredients drives the cosmetics industry, offering consumers with wider selections of safe, more effective products,” said Ma Fuyong, vice-president of Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions.

The next edition of PCHi will be held in Hangzhou for the first time from March 18 to 20, 2026. The exhibition will be held at the newly opened Hangzhou Grand Convention and Exhibition Centre.
