The South Korean consumer goods major said it recognised an urgent need for what it has dubbed climate-adaptive cosmetics.
“Our skin is directly exposed to extreme climate environments that have become routine around the world. We will accelerate R&D for climate-adaptive beauty solutions that can sensitively adapt to changes caused by global warming, and furthermore, for sustainable beauty that is in harmony with the environment,” said LG H&H Cosmetics Research Institute Director Son Nam-seo.
The importance of developing products that can mitigate the impact of climate issues was emphasised by Professor Jeong Su-jong of Seoul National University Graduate School of Environmental Studies
“The climate crisis that has become a reality will become a new standard for all consumer goods. Companies should strive to conduct scientific research and develop innovative technologies to meet the needs of consumers who have changed due to climate change,” said Jeong in a keynote speech during the Climate Adaptive Beauty Seminar, hosted by LG H&H.
CosmeticsDesign’s Beauty 4.0 Podcast previously highlighted climate-focused innovations, reflecting a growing demand for products that protect against harsher weather and climate change.
A new category of products
The company believes the development of climate-adaptive products could represent a significant shift in the industry, potentially leading to new product categories and formulations focused on resilience against environmental stressors.
