Founded in 2000, the Aussie brand claims to be a pioneer in sustainable skin care, with its latest product epitomising its goal of setting new benchmarks for circular beauty.
Its new Red Velvet Body Oil is a dry body oil formulated with tomato seed oil derived from upcycled red tomato seeds that is supplied by Native Extracts. Dry oils are typically lightweight and easily absorbed, so they do not leave a greasy or sticky feel.
“We had been working on a formula for our body oil for quite some time, and a friend of mine, Lisa Carroll from Native Extracts, introduced me to their Red Velvet Oil. Lycopene from upcycled tomato seeds not only has an exceptional sustainability profile, but its benefits for the skin are superb.
“It’s a powerful carotenoid that defends against environmental stressors. It helps protect extracellular matrix proteins by minimising UV damage, preserving skin structure, and preventing premature ageing. It’s also rich in essential fatty acids (EFAs) and phytonutrients to improve hydration and skin elasticity and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
“Additionally, its anti-inflammatory properties help calm redness and support overall skin health, making it ideal for maintaining a radiant, youthful complexion,” Mukti, founder of Mukti Organics, told CosmeticsDesign-Asia.
Mukti recognises an emerging trend of upcycled ingredients being utilised in skin care formulation, which she calls her brand “lucky” to have discovered it early.
“I do think many other brands will follow suit, which makes total sense – upcycled tomato seed is a skin care ingredient so innovative that it can transform your skin while revolutionising the way we deal with food waste!
“Through this form of repurposing, we’re not only creating a high-performing active oil but also addressing the AUD36.6bn annual food waste crisis in Australia. This represents a significant step forward in the beauty industry’s efforts to reduce waste and promote sustainability.”
Superior in sustainability and efficacy
Apart from tomato seed oil, the Red Velvet Body Oil also contains ingredients including squalane derived from biofermented sugarcane, rosehip oil, and prickly pear oil.
According to the brand, squalane regulates the skin microbiome through increasing bacterial diversity and balance. Its key contribution to skin health includes reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, increase in skin firmness, and skin moisturisation.
Prickly pear oil boasts the highest amount of vitamin E among other beauty oils in the market. It is also extremely rich in EFAs, including omega 6 and 9, antioxidants, polyphenols, amino acids, and vitamin K.
Known for its ability to support skin renewal, boost collagen production, and enhance elasticity, rosehip oil is packed with naturally occurring vitamins A and E and EFAs, which restore and lock in moisture while protecting against free radicals and premature ageing.
Its antioxidant properties also help reduce inflammation, fade hyperpigmentation, and defend against sun damage.
“We created a body oil that I believe is superior to other products on the market. It differentiates not only with its sustainability profile, but also its efficacy. This fast-absorbing dry body oil offers antioxidant defence and delivers deep hydration without a greasy residue, leaving the skin smooth and supple.
“At the same time, it supports skin elasticity and renewal, softens skin texture, improves the appearance of cellulite and stretch marks, and imparts a luminous glow,” Mukti added.
Launched on June 4, the product is available at Mukti Organics’ website as well as select local and international retailers, and used in treatments at salons and spas.
Mukti revealed that the brand is set to introduce a “groundbreaking product” later this year.
“While I can’t reveal too much just yet, there are exciting things coming up. Following the sell-out success of our body serum and the release of Red Velvet Body Oil, this next launch will complete our body care offering. We’re also celebrating 25 years in business, so you can expect limited-edition and special collections to mark the occasion.
“Australia remains our largest market, with strong growth in China and Korea, and an increasing presence in the US. We’re expanding thoughtfully with a focus on the spa and wellness sector, and ensuring that we continue to support and prioritise our loyal customers who have been with us from the start.”
