Japanese skin care brand INSiTU is partnering with a cosmetic acupuncture and moxibustion clinic to retail its products, amid growing interest in post-treatment home care.

Owned by Sakura Forest Co Ltd, INSiTU started selling three of its products at HaRi from June 1.

According to the brand, facial acupuncture has become popular among beauty-conscious Japanese women in recent years, and it considered the collaboration to be a good opportunity to make its products known among this consumer group.

At the same time, the clinic had wanted to expand its offerings of post-treatment skin care products to its customers.

INSiTU said that people who tried its products at the clinic have given feedback such as “easy to use” and “would like to use them in daily skin care routine”.

“We often receive questions about at-home care after cosmetic acupuncture. By recommending INSiTU skin care products, we are conveying the message that consumers should be more conscious of their daily skin care at home, not just during treatment,” an acupuncturist at HaRi commented.

One of the three products now available at the clinic is a “next-generation retinol serum” called Retino-Xome Shot 2.0, which debuted on its official web store on February 10.

After researching more than 35 types of retinoids, INSiTU selected five types — Granactive retinoid, retinol, bactiol, retinol linoleate, tocopheryl retinoate — for its 5D-Retinol formulation, which it claims to be a first in the world.

The serum is said to provide all-round care for pores, skin texture, radiance, firmness, and moisturisation. It can be used in the morning and night to create an “egg-like complexion” for all skin types, including sensitive skin.

Glutathione booster

Another product is Gluta-Skin Toner, which was officially released on May 1. It boasts a high concentration of “double glutathione” (Hexapeptide-94 Gamma Dipeptide-4) combined with fermented ceramide (Aspergillus culture extract) — the first of its kind in Japan.

Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant that fights against active oxygen produced by ultraviolet rays and prevents dullness caused by dryness. As it decreases with age, glutathione injections, also known as glutathione drips, are becoming sought-after in cosmetic medicine.

High-purity glutathione ingredients are used to formulate Gluta-Skin Toner via a patented manufacturing process, which diminishes the odour that is characteristic of glutathione.

The base water is electrolysed ionised water supplied by One Tenth Co Ltd, which utilises patented technology that was originally developed for use in regenerative medicine.

This unique process results in water molecules being reduced to ultra-fine sizes (0.1 nanometre level), enabling skin care ingredients to penetrate the stratum corneum approximately 35 times more efficiently compared to purified water.

In addition, eight types of vitamins and moisturising ingredients, including 3% niacinamide, are included in the formulation to work synergistically with glutathione and give the skin a brighter, plumper, and smoother appearance.

Peeling good

INSiTU’s latest launch is Herb La Peel, a salon-grade peeling product that removes dead skin cells, softens skin, and enhances translucency, while being gentle enough to be used on sensitive skin.

This product was developed under the supervision of WHITE AQUA beauty salon chain, which boasts 63 outlets across Japan that are reportedly frequented by celebrities and models.

Born through feedback garnered from 15,000 people in a year, the formula contains 23 types of herbs that act as natural exfoliators, such as Houttuynia cordata (chameleon plant), mugwort, and tea tree.

It also contains LHA (lipohydroxy acid), also known as capryloyl salicylic acid, a gentle yet effective exfoliating ingredient that is “rapidly gaining popularity” in Korean beauty treatments. It promotes cell turnover and helps unclog pores, leading to clearer skin.

The product is hypoallergic based on patch testing, and can be used without downtime due to redness or skin irritation.

In addition, Herb La Peel is made of plant enzymes (bromelain and papain), mineral clay (bentonite), 99.8% pure silica spicules (hydrolysed sponge), as well as trending ingredients like nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), 3-0-ethyl ascorbic acid (vitamin C derivative), CICA (Centella asiatica extract), and rice bran-derived polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN).

Aimed at improving pore, acne and dullness issues, the product has become a hot topic on social media, with orders “flooding in” immediately after its release.

“The first run of the limited-edition set sold out 2,000 units within 36 hours. In the first 30 minutes after its launch on May 16, orders came in at a rate of one unit every five seconds. During this period, 1,366 units were sold. Overall, the response was greater than expected.”
