NatureLab Tokyo has launched a leave-in hair mask formulated with milk thistle seed extract, which it claims to be a sustainable and superior alternative to keratin, in Singapore.

First released in the US last year, the Kiseki Molecular Repair Leave-In Hair Masque is a no-rinse product aimed at repairing damaged hair and strengthening hair structure at the molecular level.

According to NatureLab Tokyo, in Singapore and across Asia, hair care in 2025 is shaped by two key trends: hyper-specialised care and inner care.

“Consumers are moving away from generic solutions and seeking products that target their specific issues — whether it’s damage from colouring and styling, frizz, or even early thinning and greying. At the same time, there’s a growing shift towards strengthening hair from within, with long-term resilience taking priority over quick fixes.

“The Kiseki Molecular Repair Hair Masque fits right into these trends. It delivers highly targeted repair at the molecular level, visibly improving strength, smoothness, and shine in just four minutes. Simultaneously, it supports inner resilience with plant-based proteins and clean, sustainable ingredients, aligning with the rising preference for conscious and holistic beauty across Asia,” the brand told CosmeticsDesign-Asia.

Through a proprietary delivery technology called Core Absorption Technology that is claimed to enhance ingredient absorption by 50%, the low molecular weight peptides and proteins in the formula are able to penetrate into the hair cortex.

“These peptides have molecular weight that are eight times smaller, allowing for seven times faster penetration compared to conventional treatments, which merely coat strands for temporary smoothness.

“Kiseki penetrates deep into the cuticle to repair damage, and restore strength, softness, elasticity and bounce from the inside out, all without weighing the hair down. Lightweight and fast-absorbing, this formula harnesses advanced Japanese biotech and plant-powered peptides to deliver salon-grade results at home.”

In an independent third-party instrumental study, the Kiseki Leave-in Masque was shown to reduce breakage by 56%, frizz by 84%, and split ends by 70%, with 62% of split ends completely closed after use, compared to untreated hair.

These results are attributed to the key ingredient in this product — milk thistle seed extract sourced from the upcycled by-product of milk thistle oil production, which is said to be a sustainable and vegan alternative to keratin.

“With a 50 to 70% peptide concentration and an amino acid profile similar to keratin, this powerhouse ingredient has been used in herbal medicine for over 2,000 years.

“Its low molecular weight peptides help to stabilise and repair keratin structures, strengthen strands, lessen breakage, and protect against ultraviolet rays, pollution and heat damage.”

Combined with other ingredients, including pea, rice and soy proteins, upcycled Japanese green tea seed oil, and lotus flower extract, the formula further fortifies and hydrates the hair, leaving it visibly smoother and more resilient.

In addition, the mask is infused with a fragrance inspired by hinoki wood (Japanese cypress), layered with sacred incense, pressed paper, fresh cypress bark, subtle citrus and woodsy lavender.

The gender-neutral scent evokes the serenity of a traditional Kōdō (incense) ceremony, one of Japan’s three major arts of refinement, as well as the restorative calm of forest bathing. It is targeted at transforming hair care into a mindful, uplifting experience.

Distributed by Japanese personal care major Mandom in Singapore, the product is available at health and beauty retailer chain Watsons, Japanese discount store chain DON DON DONKI, and Mandom’s official stores on e-commerce platforms including TikTok Shop, Shopee, and Lazada.
