Kao-owned prestige hair care brand Oribe’s artist-led holiday packaging is inspired by its iconic goddess emblem and bestselling Gold Lust Collection.

A part of its tradition since 2018, Oribe’s annual holiday collaborations are rooted in craftsmanship and creativity, partnering with artisans and makers from diverse disciplines across the globe.

For its 2025 collection, the brand has worked with Finnish multidisciplinary artist, Kustaa Saksi, who is based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and specialises in graphic storytelling through patterns, textile art, and installation.

“Oribe’s holiday collaboration originated from a desire to bring surprise and delight to our consumers by elevating secondary packaging from a functional box into an artistic canvas, to showcase our brand value of craftsmanship and embrace our culture of storytelling as makers.

“This year, we were drawn to Kustaa’s shared connection with beauty, nature, and the threads that connect us all,” said Jennifer Smith, vice president of Product Creation at Oribe.

Saksi’s design for Oribe’s four limited-edition gift sets, named Golden Threads, draws from the iconic black and cream design of the brand’s bestselling Gold Lust Collection and the Goddess emblem.

In fact, the emblem’s design inspired Saksi’s interpretation of Norse mythology, particularly his depiction of the Norse goddess Sif’s most famous feature — golden, flowing hair.

“Her hair is a symbol of everything the earth provides to us. It is that mix of beauty, change, and nature that inspired this piece,” he explained.

The result is a custom-crafted packaging that employs ornately layered gold foils as well as intricate printing and embossing to express the season’s spirit of generosity.

Sustainability remains a key feature, with Oribe partnering a green packaging provider to produce the exterior packaging for the Holiday 2025 Collection.

The packaging is made from 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) paper and printed with soy ink, and produced at a zero-waste, zero-emission facility.

Additionally, some of the gift sets include an internal tray made from 100% biodegradable and renewable bamboo and bagasse, an agricultural waste derived from sugarcane.

Launched in September, the collection is available on Oribe.com. In Singapore, it can also be found at Oribe salons and retailers, including Shunji Matsuo.

A common thread

Apart from the holiday packaging, Oribe commissioned Saksi to bring the woven design to life in the form of a one-of-a-kind tapestry.

Using a traditional Jacquard weaving technique, Saksi combined natural fibres such as mohair, alpaca, cotton and wool, together with rubber, metal, acrylic, and phosphorescent yarns to create complex digital-to-analogue textures.

Measuring over 10 feet long, the tapestry took six months to complete and used more than 180 pounds of material.

“Attention to detail has always been so important to me, and that is something the Oribe team and I share: a love of craftsmanship. We both create work that uses layering, texture, and precision to create something really special.

“For me, the holidays have always been about slowing down, spending time with loved ones, and appreciating traditions. I think of it a little bit like weaving, where every thread connects to something bigger,” Saksi said.
