Kolmar Korea’s AI-powered Scar Beauty Device has won the Best of Innovation in Beauty Tech award at CES 2026, making it the first cosmetics company to do so.

The device also received an Innovation Award in the Digital Health category, marking the company’s double win at this year’s CES.

The Best of Innovation Award is said to be the highest distinction at CES, given only to technologies that receive top scores across all evaluation criteria, including innovation, design, and technological excellence.

Among the 10 Innovation Award honourees in the Beauty Tech category, which was first introduced in 2025, Kolmar Korea’s Scar Beauty Device was selected as the most outstanding.

Samsung Electronics drew attention when it became the inaugural recipient of this award last year. Kolmar Korea, being the second company overall to be awarded and the first cosmetics company worldwide to do so, unlocks an important milestone for the global beauty industry.

“This Best of Innovation Award is the result of research focused not just on technology itself, but on human-centred user experience and real-world problem solving. We will continue to expand artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and big data technologies across cosmetic development and service areas.

“By consistently introducing differentiated beauty tech solutions that integrate AI and digital technologies, Kolmar Korea will continue to lead the global beauty tech industry,” the company stated.

CES 2026 was held in Las Vegas from January 6 to 9, with Kolmar Korea operating a booth to showcase its technologies, including CAIOME, a microbiome-based scalp diagnostic solution.

Dual-function, user-friendly, accessible

The Scar Beauty Device is claimed to the world’s first one-stop integrated solution that combines scar treatment and skin coverage in a single tool.

Traditionally, users applied ointment to a scar and concealed it with makeup. With this device, both treatment and coverage can be done simultaneously in 10 minutes.

Its core technology lies in AI-driven big data analysis and piezo-electric micro-dispensing technology (Piezo-Electric Plating).

When a user captures an image of the scar via a smartphone app, the AI algorithm classifies the scar into one of 12 types and performs a detailed condition analysis.

Based on the diagnosis, a customised treatment product is precisely dispensed onto the scar.

At the same time, the device blends and sprays an optimal combination derived from over 180 skin-tone-matched colours to apply seamless makeup.

The piezo-electric micro-dispensing technology — similar to inkjet printing that ejects material using electrical signals — enables highly precise application without heat generation.

The device also received high marks for its intuitive UI (User Interface) and UX (User Experience) design, which allows users to monitor and control the amount of product dispensed in real time via a smartphone screen.

These features enhance the convenience, usability, and accessibility to general consumers.

Kolmar Korea plans to complete the technology launch by the first half of 2026 and begin full-scale customer acquisition in the second half of the year.

In addition, the company aims to further advance its software to apply the piezo-electric micro-dispensing technology to customised cosmetics manufacturing, while accelerating smart factory development through government-led AI Transformation initiatives.
