Albéa acquires specialist packaging provider Eyelematic

Albéa has acquired US business Eyelematic, in a move that will give it expanded capabilities in a number of key area, particularly in metal parts.

Eyelematic is based in Connecticut, and together with its specialisation in metal, it has also become an expert in plastic injection, decoration, anodizing and assembly, produces products such as caps, plastic jars, jar covers and pursers.

The company has three manufacturing plants in the state of Connecticut, which combine to serve the biggest cosmetic and personal care players in that market, specifically for the cosmetic, skin care and fragrance categories.

Focusing on North America and global markets

“Eyelematic is located in North America, in our second biggest market area after Europe, but this acquisition is targeted mainly at integrating new technology and benefiting from it on a worldwide basis,”​ said François Luscan, Albéa president & CEO in an exclusive interview with CosmeticsDesign-Europe.

“This acquisition allows Albéa to offer its customers a solution for their metal needs as well as a stronger reactivity to support market demand.”

Following the acquisition Albéa now has capabilities in galvanization, metallization, varnishing, decoration, metal and anodization, enabling to provide packaging capabilities in fragrance, skin care and make-up, worldwide.

Acquisition will help build the company's global platform

The acquisition is part of the company’s strategy to build a global platform that can support its customers across a spectrum of packaging requirements and finished on a global basis.

“In line with this ambition, we actively explore all the opportunities for acquisitions that could bring more value to our customers, either by reinforcing our presence in emerging markets or by enlarging our range of solutions with complementary expertise,”​ said Luscan.

The company has also indicated that it will remain actively acquisitive in the future, in the search for businesses that can meet these criteria.

Acquisition of Betts Group

The acquisition is the group’s second so far this year, building on the addition of the Betts Group, a specialist plastic and laminate tubes, back in January.

UK-headquartered Betts Group focuses on laminate tubes for the oral care and personal care sector with plants in the UK, Poland, Mexico, India and Indonesia.

According to Albéa, with the purchase of Betts it became the global leader in plastic and laminate tubes.
