Ahead of the in-cosmetics Latin America event, Cosmetics Design caught up with show director Daniel Zanetti to find out more about what to expect.

The event is now in its sixth year, having started in 2014 as in-cosmetics Brazil, an event that was comparatively small and held in a small event space in Brooklin, in the southern part of Sao Paulo.

Since then the event has continued to grow every year, and has subsequently been rebranded as in-cosmetics Latin America, reflecting the regional scope of what is now the most important ingredients and formulation show in Latin America.

This year the event will take place September 18 – 19 at the Expo Center Norte in Sao Paulo, and ahead of the opening we posed some questions to Daniel to find out more about what to expect.

What’s new at the show this year?

On the back of the region’s need to seek what’s new and innovative we have launched the Innovation Tour. The tours will be led by our Technical Advisor, Cleber Barros, who will guide attendees across our show’s featured areas and selected exhibitors, giving the participants a broad view of what is being presented at the show and potential application of their ingredients. The tours will focus on haircare and skincare which are the most buoyant topics in the region and are covered by our featured areas too.

What themes or trends do you expect to see at the event this year?

As mentioned above, haircare and skincare are always front of mind, but we can see that this year’s growing interests are about green/clean beauty as well as vegan cosmetics. We will have a dedicated session in our Marketing Trends Theatre where Juliana Martins* from Mintel will address what Brazilian consumers mean by natural products and if they believe in the benefits delivered to them. We will also have Simple Organic, an indie brand that will join one of our session.

Do you have any interesting new exhibitors?

We look forward to welcoming many new exhibitors to the line-up this year, particularly many Asian and Spanish companies coming to the show for the first time including the likes of Tsuno Rice Fine Chemicals Co., Ltd. from Japan, Dermalab Co. Ltd. from South Korea and Vytrus Biotech from Spain.

Are you expecting attendance and the number of exhibitors to be up on last year?

We have always maintained an amazing visitor growth year-on-year and this year is no different. Online registration is currently up by 52% so we are expecting an increase in visitor numbers. We will also have a bigger show than last year with 90% of the world’s top 20 ingredient suppliers in attendance which will create the perfect combination for meaningful conversations about ongoing and future projects with new and existing connections.

Compared to the other in-cosmetics events, what makes the Latin America market interesting?

The opportunity to meet the leading cosmetics manufacturers and focus on the region’s specific issues and topics such as Fragrance combined with aspirations and hunger for knowledge from outside the continent, not to mention the energy and vibe of the industry with the colour and amicability that is present in Brazil.

What are your goals for the 2019 in-cosmetics Latin America event?

The show will be 15% bigger than in 2018 – overall the size of the event has grown by 125% whilst the number of visitors has increased by 84% since our launch in 2014. We are the undisputed leading event in the region and this meteoric rise proves we have perfected the formula - facilitating business connections and creating learning opportunities for the whole cosmetic ingredient and manufacturing community in Latin America.

*Look out for an exclusive interview with Mintel’s Juliana Martins, finding out more about her presentation on natural cosmetics in Latin America.
