Beiersdorf closing in on China’s approval for brightening ingredient

Beiersdorf’s chief executive is “optimistic” about getting China’s regulatory approval for its hero ingredient W630, which will allow it to launch a wider range of products in the lucrative market.

During Beiersdorf’s 2023 full-year results on February 29, chief executive Vincent Warnery, told analysts that the process has been going on smoothly.

Warnery did not give a definite timeline of when the approval might come through if approved.

Both have been “growing well”​ in the travel retail channel, according to Yumie Chia, general manager, Elizabeth Arden APAC Travel Retail.

Additionally, the brand’s fragrance category, which consists of iconic fragrances such as Red Door, Green Tea, and White Tea, has also found favour with consumers.

Luxury brands can overcome heavy promotions during shopping festivals such as Singles Day with exclusive services to give consumers more bang for their buck, says Coty’s SEA e-commerce lead.

Mega shopping festivals take place across Asia throughout the year with the most famous being Singles’ Day held on November 11.

Historically, these festivals have been characterised and made wildly successful by the proliferation of heavy discounts and promotions.

Kao set to overhaul hair care with new brands and rebrands in 2024

Kao Corporation has outlined plans to strengthen its entire hair care portfolio with fresh brands and revamped offerings in its home market of Japan.

During the firm’s 2024 earnings conference, Kao chief executive Yoshihiro Hasebe highlighted plans to “revitalise”​ its hair care business by launching “next-generation premium products”.

On February 28, the firm announced more details of this hair care makeover, which sees the division split into mass and premium segments.
